For me, the World Cup actually begins with the Super 8s. That’s when the real pressure starts.
You have eight teams left, all of them have already won games that mattered. Now they are put into two groups – four teams in Group 1, four in Group 2. And you only get three games. Not five, not six. Three. So you can’t really afford that “oh we will come back next game” thing. One bad game and you are already doing NRR calculations on your phone.

First thing they see is points. More points = higher.
But in Super 8, points tie. Always. You will have like three teams on 4 points. Every year same story.
So when points are equal, they go to Net Run Rate. Better NRR goes ahead. That’s it. That one column decides who cries and who goes to the semi-final.
And if – very rare – NRR is also exactly same, then they check who beat whom. Head-to-head.
NRR – Why Everyone Hates It
Look, forget the formula they show on Google.
All you need to know – score fast, and don’t let the other team score fast.
If you chase 180 in 16 overs, your NRR jumps like crazy. If you drag the same chase to 19.5 overs, you still win, you still get 2 points, but your NRR doesn’t move much. And if you get all out for 100 in 14 overs? Your NRR is gone. Finished. You need two big wins to fix that one bad game.
That’s why in Super 8 you will never see a team just playing safe. They go for the kill. They try to finish in 15 overs, 16 overs. Not because they want to show off. They HAVE to. Because in the T20 World Cup Super 8 Points Table, a small win and a big win are not the same.
